The Boys & Girls Club of Allentown is seeking caring, enthusiast, community-minded individuals to work in the following youth development positions:


Education Director – Full-time
Responsible for planning, implementing, directing, and supervising all educational, arts, mentoring and cultural programs and activities for youth members of the Boys & Girls Club of Allentown’s Sixth Street Clubhouse. Responsible for duties and activities during the after-school program and during the summer program as assigned. Directly responsible to the Senior Unit Director. May be required to transport youth in Club vehicle to off-site field trip and event destinations.

A degree from a two or four year accredited college in education, the arts, recreation, or a related field, is preferred. Experience in the various grade school education programs, arts and crafts media, and vocational or industrial arts is recommended. He/She should have a mentoring personality and temperament that encourages trust, confidence, and respect from the membership, staff, and public. He/She should have a good character and good set of values, and be a good mentor for the youth members to follow. DVL required. Must provide 3 background clearances and 3 references. Bi-lingual experience is an asset. Full-time, hours in the school year are Monday through Friday from 1:30pm to 9:30pm, and hours during the summer program are Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Salary $30,000. Outreach Director – Full-time
Responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of fun, mentoring and educational youth programs and activities within the five core program areas, at the Turner Street Clubhouse:  Character & Leadership, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports & Fitness & Recreation.  Working with the Unit Director, plan, develop, oversee implementation, report and supervise programs and program staff. Assisting in the outreach, marketing and recruitment of youth from local schools. May transport youth, and oversee special programs, field trips and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary. A two to four year accredited college degree in a field related to education and development of youth is preferred. DVL required. Must provide 3 background clearances and 3 references. Experience in instructing youth is essential. Bi-lingual experience is an asset. Full-time, hours in the school year are Monday through Friday from 1:30pm to 9:30pm, and hours during the summer program are Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Salary $30,000 with degree, $27,400 without degree. Program Assistant – Part-time
Supports the Full-time Youth Development staff delivering a diverse, fun variety of youth programs and activities. He/She must be willing to work in different program areas as needed, including delivering educational and mentoring programs, front desk duties, as well as arts, sports, fitness, health, life skills, and recreation. Youth served are 6 to 18 years old.
Various Clubhouse locations: Sixth Street, Turner Street, and the Teen Center.
After-school core hours: 3:30pm to 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. Maximum 20 hours per week.
Summer hours: 10:00am to 6:00pm.
Job Type: Part-time
Entry level position.  Rate: $8.00 /hour
Ideal for High School or College student.

 


Lifeguard – Part-time 

Certified lifeguard(s) needed for after-school and summer part-time positions. After-school days/hours: Monday to Friday, 4:00pm to 7:30pm. Summer days/hours: Monday to Friday, 11:30am to 3:30pm. Lifeguard experience and bilingual (Spanish) preferred, but not required. Candidates must be at least 17 years of age. Pay rate $11/hour, based on experience and availability. Clearances – How to Apply
In order to volunteer or be employed at BGCA you will need to present the originals for all three clearances that are less than one year old. You can obtain the clearances at the following places listed below. Both the PA Criminal Background check and the PA Child Abuse check are free at no charge to volunteers for first-time applicants. Be aware that state wide changes are made to the clearance systems from time to time, however, BGCA attempts to update changes when they occur.

  • Employees Only:
    Act 34 – PA Criminal Background Clearance
  • Apply online via the “epatch” system at https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
  • Select “Submit a New Record Check” for Employees.
  • Pay with credit/debit card ($22.00 at 12/2017)
  • Results should be instantaneous unless they are “under review” in which case, note your reference number and date of application and use that information to check back on the “epatch” website periodically until your results are available.
  • Request a mailed certificate.
  • Print clearance (be sure you click all the way through to the “certification form” button – the document you print must show your social security number, Date of Birth, etc.) and submit to Human Resources with other clearances.
  • IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE: When you go into the PA Criminal Background clearance to view and print it, if you don’t either SAVE or PRINT out the clearance by clicking on the “CERTIFICATION” button, you will NOT BE ABLE to view or print out the actual clearance if you go back into the site.   • Response time is anywhere between immediate and two weeks, depending on volume of applications.
  • Print clearance, request mailed certificate and submit original to BGCA.
  • Employees Only:
    Act 114 – FBI Fingerprinting – NEW PROCESS for 2018
  • Two-part process:
    • 1. Pre-Enroll online & print receipt, and
    • 2. Get fingerprinting done at Identogo location.
  • Pre-Enroll online at https://www.identogo.com
  • Register online, pay with credit/debit card ($22.60)
  • Employees use Service Code 1KG756
  • Select appointment time or chose “walk-in” option.
  • Print receipt and take it to a fingerprint location * with a form of ID (Driver’s License, Passport or State ID) and get fingerprinted.
  • Your LEGAL NAME must match exactly on all identification documents brought to enrollment.
  • * There are a limited number of fingerprint locations listed on the website.  The most convenient locations to BGCA are in Allentown & Hellertown:
    • 1382 Hanover Ave, Allentown Commons Plaza, Allentown, PA 18109. Open Mon-Fri, 9am-12 noon & 1pm-4:30pm.
