On June 21st the Andre Reed Foundation participated in the United Way Day of Caring at the Boys and Girls Club of Allentown. The games room just outside the main lobby at the Sixth Street Clubhouse had a complete makeover thanks to their generosity.
Andre is an alumnus of the Boys and Girls Club of Allentown. As a child he came to the Club along with his siblings. The games room is dedicated to his career and features Buffalo Bills memorabilia, photos, and uniforms from his football days at Dieruff High School and Kutztown University.
Several weeks before the volunteer event Joyce Reed (Andre’s Mother) and John Ebling volunteered to get the room prepared for this big project. Walls were taped for painting, heater covers were designed, new cabinets were purchased, etc. A big shout out goes to both of them for their extra efforts.
Andre stated that “the games room is basically a room that was created to inspire the kids who come through here. I’m just a club kid like them. You can do anything you want to do and the future is in your hands. You can do it if you want to do it.”
Deb Fries-Jackson, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Allentown said, “The kids were so excited to have Andre at the Club and they look forward to seeing him each year. He inspires them to reach for the stars.”
On behalf of the kids at the Club, our staff and Board of Directors we would like to thank the Andre Reed Foundation for making our dreams come true by updating and creating an amazing space for children to grow and further their social skills in our games room. Thank you, thank you!
