The Boys & Girls Club of Allentown is pleased to announce a recent grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. This generous donation of $3,000 was used to purchase computers for our Turner Street Clubhouse Istation program.
Istation is a comprehensive, computer Internet-based, supplemental reading program designed to help students, in grades K-3, develop essential reading skills. With its multi-level approach to teaching beginning reading skills, Istation screens, diagnoses, and delivers differentiated early elementary grade instruction. We work closely with the Allentown School District principals and teachers who refer those students that will benefit the most from participating in these classes. BGCA offers Istation every day at four of our five Clubhouses.
This grant to BGCA is part of $4.5 million in youth literacy grants awarded to approximately 1,000 organizations across the 43 states that Dollar General serves. Given at the beginning of the academic school year, these grants are aimed at supporting teachers, schools and organizations with resources to strengthen and enhance literacy instruction.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education as part of the company’s mission of Serving Others for over 20 years. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $127 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 7.9 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
