CrossFit AR Strength – Fundraiser to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Allentown

Director of Operations, Elizabeth Butler, was contacted by CrossFit AR Strength, of Memorial Road, Allentown, PA, and asked whether the Club would agree to be the beneficiary of their all-day fundraiser – “Row to Gary”.

CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen created in 2000 and practiced by members of over 13,000 affiliated gyms around the world. Promoted as both a physical exercise philosophy and also as a competitive fitness sport, CrossFit workouts incorporate elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises. Phew!

On 12/3, CrossFit created a special event and “Workout of the Day” which was rowing 1 million meters. This measurement happens to be the same distance to Gary, IN, therefore, the event was titled “Row to Gary.” Everyone in the gym contributed rowing meters to achieve the total distance. They set aside 11 hours to complete the task: 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, however, they completed the task by 5:30 pm that day! To help raise money, they were selling AR Beanies for $20.  ALL profits will be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Allentown.

Elizabeth met CrossFit AR Strength co-owner Ian Finestein, Sales, Marketing and Social Media Coordinator, Maria Amedeo, and many of the gym members. The gym, or “box” as they call it, is extremely cool and gritty, not like your regular shiny, bright gyms; it’s a bit like the Bat-Cave, with personal fitness goals written around the black walls. The movie “Elf” was playing on a large screen and there were a couple of friendly dogs roaming around. Elizabeth said, “I was impressed with the friendliness and everyone had a strong commitment to fitness. People seemed interested in our Club and had a genuine desire to help. There’s talk of the members doing another “hoodie” fundraiser after this one. Thank you!”

In addition, Ian and Maria have invited the Club to bring some of our teens over to check out the gym and talk about fitness goals. Thank you CrossFit AR Strength for your contribution to the Club, and we look forward to a healthy partnership in the future.
